Pack Wins 15th Straight at Home with 5–1 Victory Over Mercer

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State softball team used a four-run fourth inning and a strong showing in the circle to defeat Mercer, 5–1, Saturday afternoon at Dail Softball Stadium for the final game of the Marucci Classic.
With the victory, the Wolfpack improved to 18–7 on the season while extending its home winning streak to 15 games.
How It Happened
- The Pack took the lead in the third inning after Sarah Johnson singled to start a rally.
- Kendall Simmers delivered a sacrifice fly to center field, giving NC State a 1–0 advantage.
- The Wolfpack added four runs in the fourth inning behind home runs from Morgen Talley and Taryn Massey.
- Later in the inning, Carly Short laid down an RBI sacrifice bunt, bringing home Johnson and extending the lead to 5–0.
- Mercer plated its lone run on a wild pitch in the seventh, but NC State recorded the final outs to secure the 5–1 victory.
By The Numbers
- The 15-game winning streak marks the longest home winning streak in program history.
- Carly Short reached base for the 25th consecutive game, marking the second-longest active streak in the nation.
- Maia Townsend led the offense, going 3-for-3 at the plate, and made a diving catch in center field to end the top of the fourth inning.
- Wynne Gore, Kayla Fekel and Charli Orsini combined to allow just two hits in the game.
- The last time the Wolfpack opened the season 17–8 through 25 games was in 2024.
