#9 Women’s Tennis Sweeps Syracuse; Smejkalova Secures First Win with Pack

RALEIGH, N.C. - No. 9 NC State women's tennis swept Syracuse, 7-0, Sunday afternoon at J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center. The Wolfpack won its 11th consecutive doubles point, with Mia Slama earning the match-clinching singles victory while Amelie Smejkalova picked up her first win as a member of the Pack.
NC State claimed its 11th straight doubles point to jump out to an early 1-0 lead. No. 2 Gabriella Broadfoot and Victoria Osuigwe opened the afternoon with a 6-0 sweep of Nelly Knezkova and Leena Bennetto on court one. Slama and Lavinia Tanasie then clinched the point on court three with a 6-2 win over Constance Levivier and Monika Wojcik.
Osuigwe opened singles play by defeating Bennetto, 6-1, 6-1, on court five to double the Wolfpack lead. No. 48 Broadfoot added another point for NC State with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Serafima Shastova on court two before No. 44 Slama delivered the match-clinching victory on court one, defeating Anastasia Sysoeva, 6-2, 6-3.
The Wolfpack continued to roll after the match was decided, as Smejkalova earned her first career win with NC State on court six, topping Emma Scaldalai, 6-2, 6-2. No. 65 Anna Zyryanova followed with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Knezkova on court three.
No. 51 Tanasie rounded out the sweep in the day's lone three-set singles match. After dropping the opening set, 6-4, Tanasie responded with a 6-1 second set before dominating the 10-point match tiebreak, 10-0, to defeat Wojcik, 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-0).
With the win, NC State improved to 15-5 overall and 7-1 in ACC play.
