CHARLOTTE, N.C. – NC State women's tennis sophomore Mia Slama has been named ACC Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. The honor marks the Wolfpack's seventh weekly award of the spring, the team's second ACC Player of the Week selection this season and the first weekly conference honor of Slama's career.
Slama, who is currently ranked No. 44 in singles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), earned the recognition after helping lead NC State to a 4-3 road win over then-No. 2 Pepperdine on Thursday, March 19. The victory marked the Wolfpack's seventh ranked win of the season and improved the team to 13-5 overall.
The Boca Raton, Florida, native helped NC State secure the doubles point, teaming with Lavinia Tanasie for a 7-5 win on court three over Duru Söke and Shihomi Leong to clinch the point. In singles play, Slama put the Wolfpack back in front after Pepperdine picked up an early singles win, earning a ranked victory over No. 23 Živa Falkner, 6-4, 6-2, on court one. The top-25 win marked Slama's second-highest ranked singles victory of the spring.
On the season, Slama owns a 17-9 overall singles record, including a 9-6 mark in dual play. She has competed primarily on court one in dual action, where she currently holds a 6-3 record.
NC State returns home for a weekend of play at J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center, beginning against Boston College on Friday, March 27 at 3 p.m.
