NC State Comes Up Short at No. 17 Louisville

LOUISVILLE, KY - NC State (3-4-3, 1-3-1 ACC) fell to No. 17 Louisville (8-1-2, 2-1-1 ACC) , 2-1, Friday night at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky, after the Cardinals scored the game-winning goal in the 85th minute.
NC State found the back of the net first, as Russell Berko struck first to give NC State a 1-0 lead. The goal marked Berko's fifth of the season.
Louisville responded seven minutes later to level the match at 1-1.
The Wolfpack's defense limited the Cardinals to just three shots in the first half, while NC State recorded six shots. Both teams registered one shot on goal in the first 45 minutes, with each finding the back of the net.
Neither team was able to break the tie before halftime.
The Wolfpack continued to apply pressure in the second half, out shooting Louisville 9-3. NC State finished the match with 15 total shots, while holding the Cardinals to just six.
With five minutes remaining in regulation, Louisville found the game-winning goal on its fourth shot on goal of the night to take a 2-1 lead.
Freshman Gabe Lamphere earned his first career start in goal and recorded his first career save.
UP NEXT
NC State will face UNC Greensboro, its fifth in-state opponent this season, on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 6 p.m. at UNCG Soccer Stadium. This is the team's first in-state road contest.
