TEMPE, Ariz. – Junior Martin Borisiouk and assistant coach Cris James have earned regional awards by ITA for the 2025 tennis season. This marks the second year in a row that James has won the Carolina Region Assistant Coach of the Year honor while Borisiouk has claimed Most Improved and Player to Watch.
Coming off its most successful season since 2007, NC State men's tennis continues to collect honors for its historic 2025 campaign.
Cris James has been named the 2025 Carolina Region Assistant Coach of the Year by ITA for the second year in a row. Helping lead the recruiting efforts for the Pack, James was instrumental in recruiting each of the members to make this year's historical squad. In fall action, three singles players qualified for the NCAA Singles Championships, marking the most qualified for the Pack in a season. Looking at the dual spring season, the team climbed to a new program-high ITA ranking twice, No. 5 on March 11 and then No. 4 on April 1. The team's previous high of No. 6 was set in March of 2020 just as COVID hit. In February, the guys qualified for the ITA National Team Indoors for the first time in five years after upsetting ninth-ranked Mississippi State in Starkville. The Pack held a 13-match win streak from February 26 to April 6 where in that timespan, wins were collected over 10 ranked teams, four of which were in the top-25, and two in the top-10. Setting a new program record for most conference wins in a single season, NC State tallied 12 wins in the competitive Atlantic Coast Conference with its only loss to 2025 national champions Wake Forest. To cap off the season, the team reached the 2025 NCAA Super Regional, for just the third time in program history. By the end of the season, the red-and-white owned 14 ranked wins, seven of which were in the top-25 and four in the top-10.
Martin Borisiouk earned the awards for Most Improved and Player to Watch. Junior for the Pack, Borisiouk climbed his way through the rankings throughout the fall and spring seasons and played a key role in the team's success this year. Last season as a sophomore he was the No. 7 player for his team in singles, while this year he was No. 2. He finished his campaign 16-9 overall, 10-7 in dual competition, primarily holding the No. 2 singles position and moving around where needed for doubles. He qualified for the 2024 NCAA Singles Championship in November after earning the singles co-champion title at the 2024 ITA Carolina Regional in October. His most notable wins of the season were over No. 4 Cooper Williams of Duke in October, No. 7 DK Suresh Ekambaram of Wake Forest in February, and then No. 6 Ekambaram again in straight sets in April. In the spring he went 10-7 which included 12 ranked opponents. He earned ACC Player of the Week honors on March 11 after upsetting his opponent to clinch the match over No. 5 Virginia in Charlottesville to propel the Pack to its highest-ever team ranking in program history. Closing out the regular season, Borisiouk earned All-ACC Third Team honors for the first time. In the ITA singles rankings, he climbed from No. 90 in August to No. 26 in December. He reached an all-time high of No. 23 on March 18.
