Women’s Golf Ready for NCAA Charlottesville Regional

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The NC State women's golf team will play in its 20th NCAA postseason as a team, as the Pack is set to play at the NCAA Charlottesville Regional. NC State is the No. 8 seed in the 12-team regional, which will run from Monday, May 5 to Wednesday, May 7.
The regional is hosted by the University of Virginia at the Birdwood Golf Course in Charlottesville. Birdwood is a 71-par, 6,320-yard course.
NC State has experience playing at Birdwood this season, having placed fourth at the Cavalier Regional Preview in the fall. Marie Eline Madsen (T6) and Vania Simont (T22) placed inside the top 30 at the tournament.
The top five teams in the regional will advance to the NCAA Championship set for May 16 to 21 at the Omni La Costa Golf Course in Carlsbad, California. The Pack is looking for its fifth NCAA Championship berth, first since 2023.
NC State will tee off at the 8:55 a.m. wave off the first tee with College of Charleston and BYU on Monday. Pairings will be adjusted each day based on the current standings.
NC State goes into postseason play as the No. 45 team in the Scoreboard Powered by Clippd Rankings. The regional features one other ACC team (No. 11 Virginia), as well as three top 25 SEC squads.
Madsen paces the Wolfpack with a 71.14 scoring average with 18 rounds at par or better and nine rounds in the 60s. Madsen tallied one win, seven top 10 finishes and has placed in the top 20 in all 10 tournament appearances. The freshman is an All-ACC selection, the 15th time in program history the Pack has earned a selection, as well as No. 31 in the Scoreboard rankings.
Olivares Leon is second on the team in scoring average with a 72.96 clip. She has 12 rounds at par or better and two rounds in the 60s, as well as one win, two top 10 finishes and six top 20 showings. The senior is No. 87 in the rankings and her best performance this season came at the Landfall Tradition, in which she shared the individual medalist title.
Vania Simont logs a 75.28 scoring average and has earned two top 10 finishes this season. She has five rounds at par or better and one round in the 60s this season. Her best showing in her junior season came at the Daniel Island Invitational, in which she placed fifth.
Jaclyn Kenzel will make her eighth tournament appearance this season, as well as her first appearance at an NCAA Regional. In her graduate season, she has two rounds at par or better and tied for 15th at the Daniel Island Invitational.
Caitlin Whitehead will wrap up the lineup, making her seventh tournament appearance this season and second in an NCAA Regional. Lea Ludwig will be the team's alternate and can substitute after any round.
