RALEIGH, N.C. – It was a successful Victory Over Cancer game as The Wolfpack won its seventh consecutive game and its fourth consecutive ACC series after No. 25 NC State defeated No. 2 Clemson 4-1 to complete the sweep over the Tigers Saturday afternoon from The Doak.
NC State (30-12, 15-6) holds a 10-2 record in the last 12 ACC games. With the win today, the Pack has won at least 30 games in a season for the fifth straight year. The Pack outscored Clemson 26-8 in the series to give the Wolfpack its first sweep of Clemson since 2018 when Clemson was also ranked the number two team in the country.
Today's game was the first time since last year that Clemson was held to one run or less, dating back to the series against the Pack last season, where NC State shut out Clemson
Wolfpack starting pitcher Ryan Marohn (6-2) was relentless, going eight innings and allowing only five hits and one earned run while striking out five. It marked the second time this season he's gone at least eight innings.
Brayden Fraasman picked up another hit today, going nine for thirteen on the series. Alex Sosa hit the go-ahead two-run home run in the sixth, his second homer of the series, and homered in back-to-back games.
Jacob Dudan (5) came in to close out the game in the ninth and struck out the side in order, picking up his fifth save of the season.
Clemson (36-10, 13-8) got on the board early with a two-out home run from Jarren Purify to left field.
After the home run, the Pack tied the game in the second; Ryan Jaros recorded an RBI single, driving home Fraasman.
After giving up the home run, Marohn went back-to-back innings, retiring the side in order.
The Wolfpack would get back in the run column in the sixth. A single by Chris McHugh was followed by the two-run home from Sosa, his ninth of the season, to give the Pack a 3-1 lead.
B.J. Bailey (2-2) picked up the loss after going 6.1 innings, allowing three runs on six hits with no walks and four strikeouts. Bailey was relieved by Lucas Mahlstedt in the seventh after a single from Jaros.
The Wolfpack would add some insurance with a sacrifice fly from Justin DeCriscio to extend the lead to three in the bottom of the eighth.
UP NEXT: Wolfpack will return to action on Tuesday, April 29th, to take on UNCW at 6 p.m. from the Doak on ACCNX. This will be the last home game before the Pack hits the road for a seven-game road trip before returning on May 15th for the regular season's final series against Stanford.
