Members of the Pack Set to Compete at U.S. Open in Las Vegas

RALEIGH – 12 past, current, and future members of the Pack are set to compete across various freestyle divisions of the 2025 U.S. Open tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada starting Wednesday, April 23.

A former national champion and All-American, a former five-time All-American and four-time ACC Champion, a current two-time All-American and two-time ACC Champion, and a current ACC Champion are among the group of current and former members of the Pack set to compete.
Seven wrestlers are representatives of the Wolfpack RTC right here in Raleigh, guided by RTC coach Jamil Kelly as well as NC State wrestling staff: Pat Popolizio, Zack Esposito, Kevin Jack, and Tommy Gantt.
Junior student-athlete Jackson Arrington who was a 2024 ACC Champion, will be in the 70 kg bracket of the senior level. Freshmen, Gavin Linsman and Latrell Schafer will be in the 65 kg and 74 kg weight brackets for the U20 division, respectively.
Transitioning alumni set to graduate in a couple of weeks, Ed Scott (74 kg) and Christian Knop (97 kg) are also in the mix to compete in the senior division for the RTC.
Three established Wolfpack alumni highlight the heavier weight brackets at the senior level: Trent Hidlay at 92 kg, Tyrie Houghton at 97 kg, and Michael Macchiavello at 92 kg. Hidlay and Macchiavello with already hefty career accolades look to add to their belts. Macchiavello won a national championship for the Pack in 2018 while Hidlay was a two-time national finalist in 2021 and 2024.
Of the incoming freshman class for the 2025-26 season, four guys will also be wrestling in the tournament at the U20 level. Will Denny of Illinois, Jason Kwaak of New York, and Brogan Tucker of Ohio will be competing at 74 kg, while Daniel Zepeda of California will be at 65 kg.
