TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After several delays due to field conditions, the NC State softball team concluded its series at No. 7/8 Florida State Sunday afternoon. The Pack dropped the series final, 7-4, at Joanne Graf Field to move to 21-15 overall and 4-8 in conference play.
How it Happened
The Pack will return to North Carolina to take on UNC Greensboro on Wednesday, April 2. First pitch with the Spartans is slated for 5:30pm.
How it Happened
- After a slight delay due to field conditions, graduate Michele Tarpey led off the game with a walk and senior Taylor Ensley singled to right to put two. Catcher Payden Bordeau got the job done and recorded a sacrifice fly to move runners into scoring position.
- Junior Hannah Church stepped into the box and hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Tarpey and get the Wolfpack on the board. With two outs, freshman Kendall Simmers went yard to mark her sixth homer of the season.
- The Wolfpack ended the opening frame with a 3-0 lead over the Noles.
- The rain played a factor in the bottom of the second as the game was sent into a delay due to field conditions. The Noles tied the game three-all after a double and error allowed runners to score.
- Ensley led off the top of the sixth inning with a single up the middle and Bordeau followed suit but smacked it to shallow right to get on base. With two on, Church reached base on a fielder's choice and Kam Munson, who entered to run for Bordeau, was tagged out at third.
- Simmers then singled through the left side to bring home Gabi Wilson (pinch runner) and put two on base for sophomore Tori Ensley. The younger Ensley singled to right to load the bases but the three were left stranded after the Noles picked up the final two outs.
- Sophomore right handed pitcher Carly Maxton threw five innings for the Pack, facing one batter in the sixth and finished with one strikeout. Junior righty Rylee Wyman pitched the final three outs for the Pack. She picked up two strikeouts in her time in the circle.
