RALEIGH – NC State men's tennis has reached its highest ranking in program history, landing at No. 5 in the country, as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Tuesday.
The Wolfpack has continued to climb up the ladder this season, starting the season at No. 22 and quickly rising to No. 10 a month into the season after taking down ninth-ranked Mississippi State on the road to qualify for National Team Indoors for the first time in five years.
While at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in Dallas, NC State defeated No. 7 Kentucky in the opening round to tally its second top-10 win of the season.
Opening the month of March with a win over No. 6 Stanford at home boosted NC State to tie the program-best of No. 6 that was set almost exactly five years ago in March of 2020.
Later that same week, the red-and-white avenged its loss earlier in the season to the Cavaliers at ITA Indoors with a victory over No. 5 Virginia on the road, continuing to prove exactly where the Pack belongs after collecting four top-10 wins so far this season.
Both the previous program-best of sixth and the current program-best of fifth were achieved under head coach Kyle Spencer who is in his eighth year at the helm of the Pack.
