RALEIGH, N.C. – The No. 9 NC State women's basketball team was tabbed the USBWA and NCAA Team of the Week on Tuesday. The Wolfpack defeated back-to-back ranked opponents, highlighted by taking down No. 1/1 Notre Dame on Sunday.
The Pack began the week with an 83-68 win at Georgia Tech to defeat the then-No. 20/20 Yellow Jackets. NC State saw four players in double figures, led by a game-high 17 points by Aziaha James and Zoe Brooks, while Saniya Rivers finished shy of a triple-double with 16 points, seven rebounds and eight assists.
NC State followed up that win with one of the biggest wins in women's college basketball this season with a 104-95 double overtime win against No. 1/1 Notre Dame. In a game that saw 21 lead changes and 21 ties, the Pack gutted out the victory, using a 10-0 run in the double overtime period and a 12-3 advantage in that period to pull off the upset.
The Pack improved to 15-0 at home this season and extended its streak to 20 straight home wins. NC State women's basketball hosted College GameDay for the first time, becoming the fourth school to host College GameDay for football, men's basketball and women's basketball.
In that victory, the guard trio of Brooks, James and Rivers scored or assisted on 93 of NC State's 104 points, while all five starters scored double digits in scoring for the fourth time this season. Brooks registered a career-high 33 points with 10 rebounds for a double-double, while Rivers was close to a triple-double once again with 14 points, 13 rebounds and a career-high nine assists with three blocks and two steals.
The Irish came into the game on a 19-game winning streak and a perfect 15-0 mark in ACC play. NC State's win handed Notre Dame its first loss since Nov. 30 and just the third this season.
NC State's win marks the fifth time the Pack has defeated a No. 1 opponent in school history, third time in the Wes Moore era. The previous win the Pack had over a No. 1 opponent was in 2021 against Louisville (74-60).
The Pack's 104 points marked the first time this century a team has scored 100+ points on a No. 1 opponent, as well as the first time since 2021 NC State has scored 100 points in a game.
With the Pack's two ranked wins this week, Moore has picked up 50 ranked wins in his 12-year tenure, with five of those coming this season and 33 in the past five seasons.
NC State is now 22-5 this season with a 14-2 league mark, which is second in the ACC. The Pack is one game behind the Irish in the ACC standings with two regulars season games left. NC State will host Wake Forest for Senior Day on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. The game will be aired on ACC Network Extra.
