
Pack Pulls Out 20th Win of Season Over Miami

RALEIGH, N.C. – The No. 10/11 NC State women's basketball team gutted out a 76-74 win over Miami on Thursday. Zoe Brooks got downhill to deliver the go-ahead basket, while Miami was held scoreless for the remaining 3:45 of the game. The Pack was led by Madison Hayes, who surpassed 1,000 career points, finishing with 19 points off 6-12 shooting from the field and seven rebounds.
The Pack won the battle in points in the paint (40-34) and grabbed 12 offensive rebounds compared to Miami's three. NC State picked up its 19th straight home win to improve to 14-0 on the season, and elevated its record to 20-4, 12-1 in ACC. The 20-win season marks the seventh in Coach Wes Moore era and his 31st in his 36-year career.
Miami got on the board first with a jumper and the Pack started out 0-for-3 from the field until Aziaha James came up with a basket. Miami jumped to a 7-3 lead, but a Tilda Trygger and-1 and a James jumper gave NC State its first lead of the game, 8-7. Miami then went on a 14-7 run going into the media timeout, as the Pack trailed 21-15 with 1:05 left in the first. Miami hit its fourth 3-pointer in the first quarter to go up to 10, but Hayes answered just before the buzzer with a layup to surpass 1,000 career points, as the Pack trailed 26-18 at the end of the first.
Saniya Rivers came up with a steal, which set up for a Zamareya Jones triple. Lorena Awou delivered a basket through contact to convert the 3-point play and James had a quick steal to set up for another Awou bucket. Devyn Quigley came up with a jumper through contact before the media timeout, as NC State trailed 33-30 with 4:49 left in the second quarter. Trygger tied the game at 35-35 with a pass from Brooks. Rivers came up with a 3-pointer to give the Pack its first lead since early in the first quarter, but Miami answered with a banked triple to tie the game for the fourth time. Brooks took it to the basket for two, and the Pack went into the locker room up 42-40 at halftime.
Miami tied the game up out of the break with a jumper, but Brooks and James answered with jumpers of their own. The Canes knocked down its seventh of 10th triples, which initiated a 7-0 run for Miami to retake the lead. Hayes attacked to the basket for two and delivered a 3-pointer, as the Pack trailed 54-53 at the media timeout taken with 4:29 left in the third. Rivers came up with a basket off a steal, but the Canes had an answer. Jones pulled up for two and Hayes knocked down a triple. Hayes made two free throws before the end of the quarter, as the Pack led 66-62 at the end of the third.
Hayes knocked down a triple for the first score of the fourth quarter, but Miami answered with a 6-0 run in under one minute to cut the deficit to one. Trygger came up with a putback basket, but the Canes responded to cut the deficit to one once again. Hayes delivered her fourth 3-pointer of the game, but Miami tied the game up for the seventh time. At the media timeout taken with 3:31 left in the game, the score was knotted up at 74-74. The Pack was held in a scoring drought for two minutes, but the Canes were held in a scoring drought of their own. Brooks then took it to the hoop to pull the Pack ahead 76-74 with 46 seconds left in the game. The Pack came up with two stops on defense, including in the final four seconds to earn the 20th win of the season.
