PHILDELPHIA, Pa. – After being named ACC Defensive Back of the Week, Devon Marshall gained national recognition as he was named Bednarik Award Player of the Week by the Maxwell Football Club, the organization announced Tuesday morning.
Marshall, a senior from Boston, Massachusetts, set a program record with six pass breakups and had two interceptions on the night to go along with four tackles. He becomes just the third Wolfpack player to have at least five pass breakups in a game, joining Hakim Jones and David Amerson.
After his career day, Marshall now leads the country with 14 pass breakups, and his eight passes defended against Florida State are the most in a game this season by any player.
Matched up against the ACC's leader in receiving yards, Marshall held Duce Robinson to four catches on 14 targets, and quarterback Thomas Castelloanos had a 7.7 passer rating when targeted.
Marshall's performance helped NC State secure bowl eligibility for the sixth year in a row and the 10th time in the 13 years under Dave Doeren. He is now only one shy of the most consecutive in school history.
Linebacker Payton Wilson won the Bednarik Award in 2023. Marshall joins Drake Thomas and Bradley Chubb as the only other Wolfpack players to be named Bednarik Award Players of the Week.
The Maxwell Football Club was founded in 1935 and is the oldest football organization of its kind in America.
