NC State Head Coach Laurie Henes & Athlete Hannah Gapes Win Regional Honors

NEW ORLEANS - NC State Head Coach Laurie Henes and senior standout Hannah Gapes swept the major Southeast Region awards, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Tuesday afternoon.
In her 20th season as the head coach of the women's cross country team, Henes was named the NCAA Southeast Region Coach of the Year for the 10th striaght season.
Henes guided the Wolfpack through an undefeated 2025 season, capped by an NCAA Championship title. NC State dominated, winning its ninth consecutive Southeast Regional title and the program's 30th ACC Championship title, along with victories at the Nuttycombe Invitational, Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational and the adidas XC Challenge.
Gapes, a senior from Rotorua, New Zealand, was named the USTFCCCA Southeast Region Female Athlete of the Year. It was her first time earning the accolade and the seventh straight season an NC State athlete has claimed it.
She finished runner-up at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships, placed fifth at the ACC Championships and captured individual titles at both the adidas XC Challenge and the Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational.
The USTFCCCA award winners were selected by a vote of member coaches.
