Pack Falls to Seton Hall in Opening Round of Maui Invitational

LAHAINA, HI – The 23rd-ranked NC State men's basketball team fell to Seton Hall, 85-74, Monday afternoon In the first round of the Maui Invitational played inside the Lahaina Civic Center.
NC State opened the scoring with Ven-Allen Lubin receiving a lob dunk from Darrion Williams to give the Pack a 2-0 lead, but that proved to be NC State's largest lead of the game.
With the game tied at six, Seton Hall went on a 10-0 run to take a double-digit lead with 14:51 left in the first half.
NC State responded with a 9-0 stretch to get back within one, but the Pirates went on another run, this one a 9-2 spurt, to take a 25-17 lead with 7:02 left until halftime.
The Pack again went on a mini-run to get back within two, 35-33, at the break.
Seton Hall opened the second half by scoring 16 of the first 18 points to take a 51-35 lead.
NC State was able to get back within nine with 6:04 remaining after Matt Able and Darrion Williams hit back-to-back three-pointers, but Seton Hall scored the next six points to end the Pack's threat.
NC State never got within single digits again.
Able scored a career-best 15 points for the Pack in the loss, while Lubin led NC State in scoring (16) and rebounding (9).
Williams added 12 points and Tre Holloman chipped in 11, while Quadir Copeland led the Pack with six assists.
Seton Hall ended the game with a 40-26 advantage in points in the paint and outscored the Pack 22-7 in fast break points.
NC State will be back in action Tuesday against the loser of the Boise State-USC game. Tipoff will be at 2:30 p.m. ET and the game will be televised on ESPN2.
