ORLANDO, Fla. - The 10th-ranked doubles team of Gabriella Broadfoot and Victoria Osuigwe captured the NCAA Doubles National Championship with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over fourth-seeded and No. 12 Sophia Webster and Celia-Belle Mohr of Vanderbilt on Sunday at the USTA National Campus. The win secures the second national title in NC State women's tennis history, both coming in doubles. The program's first championship was earned by Jaeda Daniel and Nell Miller in 2022.
Broadfoot and Osuigwe outlasted the Commodores in a tightly contested opening set, winning the final two games to take it 7-5. In the second set, the Wolfpack pair trailed 1-3 before mounting a comeback, leveling the frame at 4-4 and closing out the match with wins in the final two games to clinch the national crown.
From the moment Osuigwe, a freshman, and Broadfoot, a junior, teamed up this fall, their chemistry was undeniable. The duo posted a 9-2 record during the fall season and qualified for the national tournament in their first event together at the ITA All-American Championships.
Their championship run featured dominant performances and clutch moments. They opened with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Texas A&M's Daria Smetannikov and Mia Kupres in the round of 32, followed by a straight-set victory (6-4, 6-4) over Virginia's Melodie Collard and Vivian Yang in the round of 16 to secure All-American honors. In the quarterfinals, they knocked off third-seeded Ange Oby Kajuru and Susanna Maltby of UNC in three sets (5-7, 6-1, 12-10) before defeating USC's Lily Fairclough and Daniela Borruel in the semifinals (6-4, 6-7 (3), 10-3) to advance to today's championship match.
With the title, Broadfoot and Osuigwe become the youngest national champions in program history with Osuigwe competing in her first season at NC State and Broadfoot competing in her third campaign. Daniel and Miller were both graduate students during their 2022 championship run.
NC State women's tennis now turns its attention to the 2026 dual season, with the schedule to be announced in the coming weeks.
