ORLANDO, Fla. – With an impressive two-set win over third-ranked DK Suresh of Wake Forest, 15th-ranked Martin Borisiouk of NC State men's tennis has reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championship.
NC State men's tennis senior Martin Borisiouk has been on a roll at the NCAA Singles Championship in Orlando, first taking out 19th-ranked Spencer Johnson of UCLA, then Filip Gustafsson of Arizona, and now dominating third-ranked DK Suresh of Wake Forest, who led the Demon Deacons to a national team title back in the spring.
In the round of 16 on Thursday, Borisiouk cruised through his match with Suresh, defeating him 6-4, 6-1. Borisiouk earned All-American honors for the first time yesterday, while Suresh is a multi-time All-American in both singles and doubles.
Borisiouk is just the second player in program history to reach the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championship, as John Sadri was the previous to do it in 1978 when he reached the finals.
He is now set to face Max Dahlin of Michigan on Friday in the Elite Eight round.
