
Broadfoot, Slama Advance to Second Round at NCAA Singles Championships

ORLANDO, Fla. - No. 74 Gabriella Broadfoot and No. 72 Mia Slama highlighted the opening day of the NCAA Individual Championships for NC State women's tennis. The pair advanced from the round of 64 into the round of 32, leading a program-record four singles entries in action on day one.

Broadfoot was the Wolfpack's first winner of the day, upsetting No. 13 Julia Garcia Ruiz of Oklahoma. The junior took a tight first set in a tiebreak, 7-6(5), before closing out the match with a 6-4 second set.

Slama, NC State's final match of the afternoon, handled No. 60 Nao Nishino of Ohio State in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

No. 88 Lavinia Tanasie and No. 38 Anna Zyryanova also competed in Wednesday's opening round.
