
Offensive Struggles Doom Pack at SMU

DALLAS – The NC State volleyball team (10-10, 3-7) fell to seventh-ranked SMU (16-4, 8-2) in straight sets Sunday afternoon at Moody Coliseum.
The two teams exchanged points to start but it was the Wolfpack that took an early lead (5-2). The Mustangs eventually tied the set eight-all to begin a back-and-forth battle. Headed into the media timeout, SMU led 15-14 and would later take a three-point lead of its own (19-16).
Head coach Megan Wargo-Kearney used her first timeout of the opening frame after the Mustangs picked up its 20th point. The Pack attempted to battle back, but the Mustangs increased the lead to five (23-18), forcing another Wolfpack timeout.
SMU would take the first set, 25-20, as senior Courtney Bryant led the Pack with three kills through the opening frame.
The Mustangs kept the momentum going to start the second set but the Wolfpack quickly worked to tie it up eight-all. SMU quickly built back up its lead and was the first to 15 at the media timeout (15-10).
NC State struggled to slow the Mustangs offense and dropped the second set, 25-17.
SMU continued to dominate in the third, taking a 10-point lead over the Wolfpack (15-5), forcing NC State to use both of its timeouts early in the frame.
The Mustangs scored nine unanswered points to take a 21-5 lead over the Pack. NC State tried to find the momentum, but the Mustangs were unstoppable. SMU ended up taking the final set, 25-7, holding the Wolfpack to a season low of seven points.
Bryant led the Pack with eight kills offensively while Talia Francom led the defensive efforts with five blocks.

The Wolfpack returns to Raleigh to host Stanford and Cal for the next weekend of conference action. The Pack will face Stanford on Friday, October 31 at 7pm on ACCNX in Reynolds Coliseum.
