RALEIGH – NC State men's soccer sophomore forward Hakim Karamoko was selected as the 10th overall pick in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft and looks to begin his time with D.C. United.
Karamoko was chosen as the 10th pick in the first round by D.C. United on December 20, making him NC State's second highest ever pick of the MLS SuperDraft.
When speaking on his time at NC State, Karamoko stated, "NC State was packed with awesome resources, supporting everyone from athletes to students. With top facilities, expert mentors, and a lively community, everything you needed to succeed was right there. You could not make any excuses, you just had to utilize the opportunities which is what I did. I believe I've grown and learned so much on and off the field which will serve me over my lifetime. I've grown a ton picking up lessons that will stick with me for life."
The New York native spent two years with the Pack, earning numerous accolades for his success on the field. His freshman season brought four goals and nine points, placing him on the 2023 All-ACC Freshman Team and the 2024 ACC Preseason Watch List as the youngest member featured.
The 2024 season as a sophomore found even more success as he aided his team to a NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance. At the conclusion of the season he finished leading his team in goals (7) and points (16). Throughout the regular season, he played in all 16 regular season games with 11 starts while collecting two assists. He was one of 44 players invited to the 2024 MLS adidas College Showcase in San Diego leading up to the SuperDraft. Postseason accolades included being named to the All-ACC Second Team and All-South Region First Team, as well as being ranked No. 88 on TopDrawerSoccer's Postseason Top-100 College Soccer Players National List.
"We are very proud of Hakim and the growth he has shown here at NC State" said head coach Marc Hubbard. "This is a testament to all the guys in the locker room and how hard they have worked in the past year. Players leaving early are never easy to replace and Hakim is no different but this accomplishment is something to celebrate because it proves that you can come to NC State, grow as a person and player, and have real opportunities to go on and play at the highest levels of professional soccer. Hakim joins a long list of very decorated alums and we look forward to 2025 in building on the momentum created in the last year. Best of luck to Hakim in his new journey, we will all be watching and rooting for you!"
