
Cal Knocks Off Pack, 65-62

RALEIGH, N.C. – California scored the last four points of the game to escape the Lenovo Center with a 65-62 win over NC State on Saturday evening.
With the loss, NC State falls to 9-9, 2-5 in the ACC while Cal improves to 9-9, 2-5 in the ACC.
The Pack had battled back from a six-point deficit with a 7-0 run to take a 62-61 lead on a Jayden Taylor three-point play with 1:20 remaining.
On the ensuing possession, Cal's Jovan Blacksher Jr., made a lay-up to put the Golden Bears back in front.
Brandon Huntley-Hatfield was short on a hook shot on the other end and Cal's DJ Campbell completed the scoring with two free throws.
Breon Pass' tying three-point shot was off the mark at the buzzer.
Taylor led NC State with 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Marcus Hill added 13 points while Ben Middlebrooks finished with 11.
Cal had a balanced scoring attack with five players reaching double figures, led by Blacksher, Jr., with 14.
California had a 31-29 lead at halftime and while the Pack tied it on six different occasions in the final 20 minutes, it was only able to lead once, 62-61, as the Golden Bears stayed in front for the majority of the final 25 minutes of the game.
NC State finished the game with a 19-9 advantage in points off turnovers, but had a season-low five assists and made only one three-pointer.
The Pack returns to action next Saturday when it hosts SMU at the Lenovo Center. Tipoff against the Mustangs is scheduled for noon and the game will be televised on The CW.
