
Pack Defeats Cavaliers to go Undefeated in Opening Weekend of Conference Play

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State volleyball team handed Virginia its second loss of the season after defeating the Cavaliers, 3-1, Sunday afternoon in Reynolds Coliseum.
The win marked the 13th straight over the Cavaliers. NC State moves to 7-3 overall, 2-0 in ACC play.

Breaking Down the Match
- The Pack dominated from the start, despite the Cavaliers keeping the opening frame close. Virginia attempted to take over the lead but were unable to find a weak spot in the Wolfpack defense.
- NC State went on a 6-2 scoring run to close out the first set on top, 25-16. Junior Ava Brizard led the Pack with six kills in the opening frame.
- The Wolfpack struggled to hold a lead in set two after the Cavaliers tied the set four-all. UVA led by as many as seven in the second set, forcing head coach Luka Slabe to use both timeouts early. The two teams exchanged service errors midway through the set.
- A late rally by the Wolfpack fell short as Virginia took set two, 25-20 and evened out the match at one-all.
- NC State regained momentum in set three as the Pack never gave up the lead, despite the Cavaliers tying the set on four occassions. The Wolfpack led by as many as five in the third frame and took set three, 25-21.
- Senior opposite Amanda Rice paced the Pack and led all scorers in the third with seven kills.
- Back-to-back errors by the Cavaliers allowed the Pack to take the early lead in set four. Despite Virginia tying the set six-all, it was the Wolfpack who maintained a lead through the end. Like set one, Brizard tallied six kills with zero errors to lead the Pack.
- NC State took set four, 25-19 and won the match, 3-1.
- The match marked the 69th win under head coach Luka Slabe, 200th in ACC play, and 807th overall in program history.
