Gabia Paskauskas Advances to Qualifying Draw at ITA All-American

Cary, N.C. - NC State women's tennis freshman Gabia Paskauskas advanced to the ITA All-American Qualifying Draw after gaining three wins in two days during the pre-qualifying portion of the tournament. She joins Gabriella Broadfoot and Maddy Zampardo in the qualifying draw of singles starting Monday, Sept. 23.
All four NC State players won their first matches of pre-qualifying singles in the round of 128 on Saturday. Gabia Paskauskas set the tone with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-0 victory over LSU's Anita Sahdiieva and Mia Slama finished right behind her with a 6-4, 6-7, 6-2 win over Texas Tech's Andreea Lila. Kristina Paskauskas picked up a straight-set victory over Gavriella Smith of Penn, 6-2, 6-4 and Jasmine Conway took down Arkansas' Olga Bienzoboas, 6-2, 2-6, 7-5.
In the round of 64 in the pre-qualifying draw, Gabia Paskauskas defeated Clemson's Sophia Hatton in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4 to move on to the round of 32 to beat Colorado's Aya El Sayed in a hard-fought 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 comeback victory to advance to the qualifying draw. The freshman is the first player since Sophie Abrams to advance through the pre-qualifying rounds.
Mia Slama also won her second match in straight sets, defeating Nibedita Ghosh of Notre Dame, 6-4, 7-6. She would then lose to Kentucky's Zoe Hammond in her third match, 7-6, 6-7- 6-7. Kristina Paskaukas fell to Wichita State's Xin Tong Wang, 6-7, 5-7, and Jasmine Conway's comeback over Taly Licht of Georgia Tech, 6-7, 7-5, 3-6, fell short.
In doubles action, Conway and Kristina Paskaukas defeated Florentine Dekkers and Gaby Rivera (LSU) in the first round, 6-7, 7-5 (10-4) before losing to Virginia Tech's Semra Aksu and Ozlem Ulsu, 6-7, 6-7. Slama and Gabia Paskauskas lost the first match to SMU's Drew Morris and Sophie Llewellyn, 6-3, 4-6 (5-10).
