Eddie Gonzales Selected for Southern Tennis Hall of Fame Induction

Peachtree Corners, Ga. – Two-time NC State men's tennis MVP, Eddie Gonzalez, has been selected to be inducted into the Southern Tennis Hall of Fame. STF, is the charitable affiliate of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Southern Section.
Gonzalez was a member of the NC State men's tennis team in the late '80s where he was named a captain and two-time MVP. Upon graduation, he received two bachelor's degrees in Speech Communication and Political Science.
After his time in Raleigh, he posted an impressive adult tournament career representing Georgia in The Callen Cup and Southern in the Donoff Cup, winning the title each year he played. He also claimed the Atlanta Senior Invitational over 10 times. Internationally, he played for the Ratingen Tennis Club out of Dusseldorf, Germany and was a part of the German Dundesliga National Championship team in 2023.
Outside of his adult career, he went on to grow an impactful presence in the tennis world across the southeast United States. Serving as the Atlanta Open Tournament Director and Chief Business Officer from 2013-2020, he was vital in establishing the ATP tournament in Atlanta as a major event in the summer sports scene. He became the first USTA Southern Director of Marketing & Sales, and in 2021, earned the USTA Southern Jacobs Bowl, which is considered the top volunteer award by the organization.
As the ATP Tournament Director, Gonzalez also partnered with BB&T and Truist as the Atlanta Open's name sponsors, created innovative programs such as "Sunday Showdown, and won numerous USTA Gold and Silver Balls with his daughter.
Currently, he is a member of the USTA Nominating Commitee and served as the USTA Presidential Appointee for over four years.
The foundation plans to officially honor the inductees with a ceremony at the Lucy Garvin Southern Tennis Hall of Fame Banquet, scheduled for January 18, 2025, in Atlanta.
