RALEIGH, NC – For the second time this season, Maddy Zampardo of NC State women's tennis will take home ACC Freshman of the Week honors after a 2-0 weekend in singles and a doubles win, the conference announced Tuesday.
Zampardo posted a 2-0 weekend, defeating Virginia's No. 76 Elaine Chervinsky at No. 5 singles in a three-set tiebreaker, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (9-7). She also recorded another win on Court 5 over Erika Cheng of Virginia Tech and a doubles win over the Hokies on Court 1. The Detroit native has won four straight singles matches and is now 7-1 in ACC play, seeing just one loss in her last 11 matches.
Her ranked win over Chervinsky was the first in her career.
In the latest ITA doubles rankings, Zampardo and her doubles partner Amelia Rajecki are ranked 15th in the nation. The doubles pairing has yet to be ranked outside the top 15 all season.
Zampardo won her first Freshman of the Week honor back on March 5th. Zampardo is one of four ACC freshmen to win the award at least once this season.
Zampardo and the rest of the Wolfpack women's tennis team are now preparing for the final homestand of the regular season, with Miami coming to town on Friday, March 5th, and Florida State on Sunday, March 7th.
