BLACKSBURG, Va. – The No. 10 Wolfpack women's tennis team got themselves back in the win column with a 6-1 victory over Virginia Tech for their seventh consecutive victory over the Hokies on Saturday afternoon.
As they have done so many times this season, the Wolfpack got out in front early with a doubles win. The Hokies won doubles on court two first, but No. 13 Amelia Rajecki and Maddy Zampardo claimed a 6-3 victory on court one, forcing it to come down to court three. On court three, Gabriella Broadfoot and Gina Dittmann secured the doubles point with a 6-4 victory to put the Wolfpack up 1-0.
The Wolfpack's winning continued, with senior and 10th-ranked Rajecki picking up her 99th career singles win and cruising to a 6-0, 6-2 win to make it 2-0.
After the senior got her win, the freshman closed out the match for the Wolfpack as Zampardo and Broadfoot on courts five and six each won in two sets to give the Pack the win.
Each had to win their 6-6 tiebreaker to take the first set, with Zampardo winning 7-4 and Broadfoot 8-6 to have the advantage going into the second set. The second set for each went their way to expand the Wolfpack's lead and eventually give NC State four points.
No. 43 Anna Zyryanova and Gina Dittmann also found themselves in the win column with singles victories, both in three sets. The individual victories for each are their first in three outings.
The Wolfpack will return to Raleigh for the last time this season as they prepare to host a pair of matches. The first will be on Friday, April 5th, when they welcome Miami for a 4 p.m. match. Then, on Sunday, March 7th, at noon, NC State will celebrate senior day against Florida State with the Wolfpack, recognizing Amelia Rajecki, Abigail Rencheli, Gina Dittmann, and Sophie Abrams.
