Shepard Wins NC State's Third Gymnast of the Week Honor of 2024
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the second time in 2024 and the second-straight week, Emily Shepard has been named the ACC's Gymnast of the Week.
Shepard's recognition is the third-straight week with an NC State gymnast winning the ACC's top weekly honor, with Chloe Negrete having claimed the award after the Pack's Jan. 19 dual meet at North Carolina. Additionally, Shepard becomes the first gymnast in ACC history to have been named Gymnast of the Week more than once.
Shepard was the all-around champion in the Pack's most recent outing at Clemson, firing a four-event total of 39.350 to contribute to NC State's best road score of 2024, a 196.300 in a 196.300-195.600 victory over the Tigers.
Shepard posted scores of 9.8+ in all four events, highlighted by a 9.900 on floor in the Wolfpack's third rotation.
Shepard tabbed four podium finishes for the Wolfpack at Clemson, with first-place results in both the all-around (39.350) and bars (9.850).
The fifth-year senior additionally landed in ties for third place on beam and floor, with a 9.800 on the balance beam in NC State's final rotation and added to her program record of 41 scores of 9.9+ with a 9.900 on floor.
Shepard and the rest of the Wolfpack will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 11, as NC State welcomes in-state foe North Carolina to Reynolds Coliseum. The first rotation between the Wolfpack and Tar Heels is slated for 4 p.m., and the meet will be televised on the ACC Network.
