The shutout was the first of the season for the Wolfpack.
How it Happened
- Aisha Weixlmann started the contest with three shutdown frames, leading to the Pack's offense finding its stride in the bottom half of the third inning as NC State registered six runs to take a 6-0 lead.
- The Wolfpack tabbed six hits in the home half of the third, three of which accounted for extra bases. Hannah Goodwin broke the ice for NC State, with her single that was awarded second base as a result of a fielding error bringing home a pair of runs to put the Pack on top 2-0 early. Immediately following Goodwin's spark, Makayla Marbury doubled the Wolfpack lead with a two-run home run to center field that drove home Goodwin and pushed the Pack's lead to 4-0. Two more runs came from a Taylor Ensley single and a RBI groundout from Kaylee Lambrecht, with NC State moving ahead 6-0 and jumping out to what would prove to be an insurmountable lead.
- The bottom of the fourth saw two more runs get added to the board for the Wolfpack. With Gabi Wilson on base to pinch run for Hannah Goodwin, Marbury stepped up to the plate. She drilled her second ball of the evening over the outfield wall to put the Pack ahead 8-0. Michele Tarpey then singled to left field, and Alaina Smith entered to pinch run. Katie Raper stepped up to the plate as a pinch hitter and reached base on a fielding error by the Great Danes. Smith later scored to put NC State ahead 9-0.
- Weixlmann pitched all five innings of the shutout and finished the evening with eight strikeouts. The shutout was the fourth of her career and second at NC State.
