RALEIGH — NC State women's basketball senior guard Madison Hayes was named one of five Ann Meyers Drysdale National Players of the Week by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) on Tuesday.
Hayes averaged 15.5 points, eight rebounds and two assists in last week's Wolfpack victories, highlighted by leading the team in scoring in a ranked ACC road win at No. 16 Notre Dame.
Her performance against the Fighting Irish led all players on the floor in scoring, and Hayes went on to post her team-leading fifth double-double of the year with 15 points and 11 rebounds in a comeback win over Georgia Tech. Her current streak of 10+ point games is at five, the longest active streak on the team right now.
A native of Chattanooga, Tenn., Hayes is posting the best averages of her career with 12.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. She set a new career high with 24 points against Clemson in January and went on to do the same in rebounds in the next game with 14 at Boston College.
NC State has remained in the AP Top 10 for 14 straight weeks, checking in at No. 6 in Monday's poll. The Wolfpack is back in action on Thursday when it makes the trip to take on UNC for the second time this season.
