RALEIGH – Wolfpack women's basketball guard Saniya Rivers has been named to the 30-player midseason team for the 2024 Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Women's College Player of the Year.
The NC State junior is also already on the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 watch list and a top 10 finalist for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award that honors the nation's top shooting guard.
Rivers averages 12.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.5 steals with the latter two categories leading a Wolfpack squad that is currently 21-3 and has spent the last 13 weeks ranked in the AP Top 25. She ranks in the top seven in the ACC in assists and steals and is shooting 41.1 percent (90-of-219) from the field this season.
A native of Wilmington, N.C., Rivers has scored 10+ points in 12 outings this season, highlighted by a career-high 33-point game against No. 2 UConn. In that contest, she posted the first double-double of her career with 10 rebounds and also added five assists. On the playmaking front, Rivers had a career-high eight assists in the Pack's road win at Virginia and had back-to-back seven-steal games earlier in January.
Rivers is just seven assists from reaching the 100 assist milestone on the season, and she is 17 steals away from cracking NC State's single-season top 15 list. Over the last two seasons with the Wolfpack, Rivers has averaged 10.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists across 52 games played.
Ten semifinalists for the Naismith Women's College Player of the Year will be announced on March 14, and the winner will be selected on April 3.
