
Pack Pushes Past Old Dominion for 10th Straight Home Win

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State women's basketball team defeated Old Dominion, 86-55, on Sunday afternoon to extend its home winning streak to 10 games and home unranked non-conference streak to 64. NC State won the battle in rebounding (55-39), points in the paint (40-22) bench points (41-30) and fast breaks (24-5). Four Pack players scored in double digits, while 10 players scored at least three points.
NC State trailed the entire first quarter, but cruised on a 12-0 run in the second and a 22-2 run in the third to lead by as many as 33 points in the fourth quarter. The Pack improved to 6-3.
NC State won the tipoff for the eighth time this season, but ODU tallied seven points off four NC State turnovers to allow the Monarchs to jump to an early 13-5 lead. Zoe Brooks scored the Pack's first basket of the game and Devyn Quigley knocked down a 3-pointer before the media timeout, as the Pack trailed 13-8 with 4:20 left in the first quarter. The Monarchs pulled back ahead by five until Saniya Rivers drew a foul off a 3-pointer with one second left in the quarter. She knocked down all three free throws, allowing the Pack to cut the deficit back to two, trailing 19-17 after the first quarter.
The Pack started 0-for-4 from the field to begin the quarter until Lorena Awou came up with a basket and drew a foul to convert the 3-point play. This gave NC State its first lead of the game, 20-19, two minutes into the second quarter. Madison Hayes had her first field goal of the game off a jumper, which initiated a 12-0 run for the Pack. After a Hayes and-1 and Zamareya Jones 3-pointer off a second chance opportunity, as a part of that run, ODU called a timeout, as NC State charged to a 37-24 lead. NC State held ODU scoreless for 4.5 minutes, but the Monarchs dug out of the drought with a 3-pointer. NC State led 38-27 at the half.
Brooks came up with NC State's first field goal for NC State in the third quarter, starting an 18-0 run for the Pack. After back-to-back 3-pointers by Aziaha James and a basket by Mallory Collier, ODU called a timeout, as the Pack led 54-29 with 4:55 left in the third. Out of the timeout, the Pack kept trucking on that run, extending its lead to 31 and continuing to leave ODU scoreless for 5.5 minutes. The Monarchs got out of that drought with a tough shot, but the Pack outscored ODU 28-10 in the third quarter to head to the fourth ahead, 66-37.
Jones knocked down a triple, but ODU matched it with one of their own. A Laci Steele 3-pointer pulled the Pack's lead back to 30, as the Monarchs took a timeout with NC State leading 74-44 with 5:56 left in the game. Tilda Trygger delivered her first 3-pointer of the season to give the Pack a 33-point lead, its largest of the game, but ODU answered with an 8-0 run. NC State responded with a 7-1 run to close out the game and cruise to a win 86-55.
- Jones led the Pack with 15 points, scoring nine of those in the fourth quarter. She added four rebounds, four assists and a career-high three blocks
- Rivers registered 14 points with a season-high 8-of-9 shooting from the free throw line. She also added five rebounds, four assists and three steals, her 19th 3+ steal game of her career
- James logged 12 points off 4-of-8 shooting, 2-of-5 from 3-point in just 16 minutes
- Awou registered the first double-digit scoring game of her career with 10 points and seven rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench
- Hayes logged six points, eight rebounds and one block with a team's best +32 +/-
- Trygger recorded a career-high eight points, going 3-of-4 from the field for a career-high
- Maddie Cox pulled down a season-high six rebounds with one block off the bench
- Brooks logged seven points, six rebounds and two assists
- Collier went 3-of-3 from the field for six points
- The Pack pulled down a season-high 53 rebounds and tied a season-high 21 offensive rebounds
