Wolfpack Concludes Opening Weekend of 2025 Season

RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State's track and field teams wrapped up the opening weekend of the 2025 season Saturday, competing at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston and the Winston-Salem College Kick-Off in Winston-Salem, N.C.
At the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, Angelina Napoleon clocked a time of 9:07.71 in the 3,000m.
In the 5,000m, Grace Hartman opened her indoor season with a 15th-place finish, crossing the line in 15:32.04. Teammates Hannah Gapes (15:47.35) and Brooke Rauber (16:04.43) placed 29th and 50th, respectively.
On the men's side, Ryan Motondo and Brett Gardner represented NC State in the distance events. Motondo finished 89th in the 3,000m with a time of 8:21.54, while Gardner secured 30th place in the 5,000m, finishing in 13:36.54.
At the Winston-Salem College Kick-Off, freshman Olivia Vaughan made an impressive collegiate debut, placing sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.15. She also competed in the long jump, finishing 20th with a mark of 4.96m.
Jakerra Covington also competed in the 60-meter hurdles, placing 13th in 9.39. She recorded a mark of 4.54m in the long jump and took 17th place in the shot put with a throw of 10.97 meters.
Ta'Honny Exum stood out in the shot put, finishing third with a throw of 14.00 meters.
In the women's weight throw, Makala Wright claimed first place with a mark of 18.56 meters, followed by teammate Sydney Freeman, who took second with a throw of 18.28 meters. Freshman Natalie Griffith earned a top-10 finish in her collegiate debut, recording a mark of 15.74 meters.
On the men's side at Winston-Salem, Tony Taylor II placed seventh in both the shot put (14.88 meters) and the weight throw (16.06 meters).
