
Pack Defeats Coppin State in Heritage Game

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's basketball team overcame a cold start to defeat Coppin State, 66-56, Tuesday night in the program's annual Heritage Game at Reynolds Coliseum.
Marcus Hill led the Pack in scoring for the second straight game, scoring a game-high 16 points while Dontrez Styles chipped in 15 points.
Ben Middlebrooks had 13 points and Dennis Parker, Jr., had his first double-digit scoring game of the season, finishing with 10 points.
NC State missed its first 10 shots of the game which allowed Coppin State to run out to an 8-1 lead. Trey Parker scored the Pack's first field goal at the 14:43 mark to get within five, 8-3.
The Eagles pushed their lead to nine, 17-8, with 12:06 to play when NC State went on a 15-4 run to take its first lead of the game, 23-21, with 5:17 left in the half on a Hill lay-up.
The Pack eventually pushed its advantage to seven, 35-28, at the break.
In the second half, Coppin State got within four, 90 seconds into the half, but the Pack responded with a 7-0 run to take its first double-digit lead of the game and the Eagles never got closer than seven the rest of the way.
NC State's lead grew to as many as 16 points in the second half, but Coppin State ended the game on a 6-0 run to close the scoring.
NC State entered the game second in the ACC in field goal percentage, but shot a season-low 36.7 percent in the win over Coppin State.
The Pack also had a season-low eight assists and a season-low three steals in the win.
NC State is back in action Saturday when it plays its first true road game of the season, taking on 10th-ranked Kansas in Allen Fieldhouse. Tipoff against the Jayhawks is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. ET and the game will be televised on ESPN.
