RALEIGH – Madison Hayes of the NC State women's basketball team has been recognized as one of 14 collegiate women's basketball players with the Kay Yow Servant Leader Award. This is a new award, honoring student-athletes who exemplify the values of leadership, selflessness and service in the fight against all cancers affecting women.
Hayes is an active member of the community, and has held a Back to School Bash for the past two years to give out over 250 backpacks with school supplies and prizes to grade school students prior to the start of the school year. She holds this drive in her hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee. A lot of young kids in the community look up to Hayes, who takes part in several community service projects and finds ways to give back.
Coach Kay Yow was widely admired for her success on the basketball court and her compassion, integrity and dedication to helping others. This award honors Coach Yow's legacy and the next generation of women who carry it forward. The award is now presented annually to student-athletes of great character and those who put the needs of others first, doing so with humility and grace. Award winners like Hayes demonstrate dedication to making a positive impact on their team and in the communities.
As an honoree of this award, Hayes will wear a special patch on her uniform during the 2024-25 season.
