SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The NC State men's basketball team shot a season-low 37 percent from the field in falling to BYU, 72-61, Friday afternoon at the Rady Children's Invitational.
The Pack shot just 29.6 percent in the opening half as BYU was able to open up an 11-point halftime advantage.
NC State could never get within striking distance in the second half as the Cougars made four three-pointers at the beginning of the second half to extinguish any hopes of a Pack comeback.
Michael O'Connell and Jayden Taylor tied for team-high honors with 16 points for the Pack. The 16 points tie for the most points O'Connell has scored in his NC State career.
Brandon Huntley-Hatfield led NC State in rebounding for the third straight game, finishing with nine rebounds.
The Pack won the turnover battle, 14-9, but could not convert the Cougar turnovers into a point advantage as BYU outscored the Pack 12-9 in points off turnovers.
BYU also outrebounded the Pack, 45-32, and finished with a 30-20 advantage in points in the paint.
NC State is back in action Wednesday night when it hosts Texas in the ACC-SEC Challenge. Tipoff against the Longhorns is scheduled for 9:15 p.m. ET and the game will be televised on ESPN2.
