TOMS RIVER, N.J. – Sunday afternoon ended with two team wins for sixth-ranked NC State wrestling after cruising over Princeton and a wire-to-wire match with 17th-ranked Rutgers in New Jersey.
The Wolfpack left New Jersey with its first team ranked win of the 2024-25 slate as well as six individual ranked wins between the two dual-matches.
Starting off the day, NC State faced Princeton for the first time since the 2022 season to take the series lead between the two, 3-2. The only points the Pack allowed the Tigers were at 149 and 197 pounds where Koy Buesgens and Andrew Macchiavello fell in tight bouts to their ranked wrestlers. Isaac Trumble closed out the dual with statement, collecting a fall over their 33rd-ranked heavyweight in the first period.
Moving quickly into the next match-up of the day, Vince Robinson continued his spot in the starting lineup at 125 pounds and lead 11-4 over sixth-ranked Dean Peterson when the Rutgers wrestler had to injury default after a head collision.
The rest of the dual would go wire-to-wire but NC State held the team lead throughout all 10 bouts.
In the 141 weight class, Kai Orine's match with Jake Mann drew heat as refs had to review several calls to ensure the call. The seventh-ranked member of the Pack had to ride out his 22nd-ranked opponent for the third period to ensure a victory in regular time.
Matty Singleton, ranked No. 25 at 174 pounds, drew heads when he defeated #13 Jackson Turley by a three-point takedown with less than 20 seconds remaining in his bout.
Trumble again capped off the dual for his team and clinched the win when he took down fourth-ranked Yaraslau Slavikouski by getting an escape and the riding time point.
