
Staeheli and Shick Both Qualify for NCAA Singles Tournament in Waco Texas

Chapel Hill, N.C.- Wolfpack Seniors Braden Shick and Luca Staheli both qualified for the NCAA singles tournament over the weekend after making it to the semi-finals of the ITA East Sectional Championship in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The pair joined teammate Martin Borisiouk on their road to Waco, Texas making this the first time in school history where the Wolfpack has had three athletes qualify for the NCAA Singles tournament. Borisiouk qualified for the NCAA singles tournament back in October after his performance in the ITA Carolina Regionals.
No. 33 Braden Shick qualified for his first NCAA singles tournament after defeating No. 54 Adit Sinha of Cornell Sunday. Shick worked his way to the semi-finals after four days of competition. After dropping his first set (6-2) Sunday morning the senior played a back and forth battle, putting pressure on his opponent to take the next two sets (6-4, 6-3) for the win.
No. 57 Luca Staeheli defeated opponent No. 97 Ioannis Xilas of Wake Forest Sunday morning in the Semi-finals of the ITA East Sectional Championship. Staeheli dropped in the first set (6-4) to Xilas, bouncing back in the second set Staeheli took control on the court only allowing one game for a (6-1) set heading into the third. After dropping (5-0) in the third Staeheli came back bringing the match to six games all for a third set tiebreaker. Xilas claiming two points was not enough, as Staeheli secured the win in a (7-2) tiebreaker in the third.
The Wolfpack will make its trip to Waco, Texas Nov.19-24. All events will be streamed on ESPN+ with Cracked Racquets. Singles and doubles draws will be released at 5 p.m. Central time, Nov. 16 on the NCAA website. The schedule of play will be released the evening before each day of competition.
