RALEIGH, NC – NC State men's tennis alumni Alexis Galarneau (Class of 2021), Tadas Babelis (Class of 2021) and Martins Rocens (Class of 2023) are set to represent their respective nations in the 2024 Davis Cup.
The 112th edition of the tournament kicks off with qualifying action over the weekend, and the winning nations from each of the 12 qualifiers will advance to the 2024 finals as part of a 16-nation lineup that already features 2023 finalists (Australia and Italy) and two wild cards (Great Britain and Spain).
Galarneau and Team Canada will face off against The Republic of Korea, with those matches set to be played in Montreal on Feb. 2 and Feb. 3. A native of Laval, Canada, Galarneau was a two-time All-American and four-time All-ACC honoree during his Wolfpack career in addition to being named 2021 ITA Carolina Region Senior of the Year. He was a part of Canada's first-ever Davis Cup world championship team in 2022.
A native of Lithuania, Babelis has been a consistent member of the nation's Davis Cup team since 2015. He was a two-time All-ACC honoree during his four-year career with the Wolfpack who remains ranked in the program's top 15 in career doubles victories.
Rocens will represent Team Latvia after returning home following his graduation from NC State last spring. Rocens competed at the 2021 ITA Fall National Championships in doubles and was honored as a part of the ACC Doubles Team of the Week multiple times in his career.
Latvia and Lithuania are both playing in the World Group I Playoffs with the winner promoted to World Group I in September 2024.
In each of the above showdowns, a mix of singles and doubles matches will be played. More information about the tournament and the draw for this weekend's qualifying rounds can be found on the Davis Cup website.
