RALEIGH, NC – NC State women's tennis found themselves again among the top 10 in the ITA Preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll as the Wolfpack were tabbed the No. 9 team in the rankings, the organization announced on Wednesday.
This is now the fifth straight year the Wolfpack has started the season in the national top 10 and is coming off a year in which NC State won their first ACC Championship and an appearance in the national championship. Last season, the Wolfpack earned the best preseason ranking in program history as it was tabbed the No. 3 team ahead of the season.
NC State returns five players from the 2022-23 squad, including 2023 NCAA Women's Singles Championships semi-finalist Amelia Rajecki, 2022 All-American Abigail Rencheli, 2023 NCAA All-Tournament Team, Gina Dittmann, with Sophie Abrams and Anna Zyryanova rounding out the Pack's returners. The squad welcomes four newcomers – freshmen Gabriella Broadfoot, Reya Lee Coe, Maddy Zampardo, and transfer Kristina Paskauskas.
Following the conclusion of a successful slate of fall action, NC State has five singles players and three double pairs featured in the ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
It was highlighted by Rajecki, who was ranked No. 3, the highest ranking ever by a Wolfpack player in program history. After setting the program record with 16 singles wins in the fall, Abrams is ranked No.19. Rencheli checks in at No. 27, Zyryanova at No. 40, and Zampardo at No. 116 to round out the singles rankings.
In the ITA National doubles rankings, NC State was the only program with two pairs ranked in the top 10. First, No. 7 Rajecki and Zampardo, followed by No. 9 Abrams and Zyryanova. The third Wolfpack pair to be ranked is Broadfoot and Rencheli at No. 52.
NC State kicks off 2024 at the Weinman Foundation Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii, Jan. 4-7 before entering dual match action at home against SMU on Jan. 15th to start the season.
The ITA Top 25 Coaches Poll is voted on by the ITA National Ranking Committee. The National Ranking Committee is made up of the 13 ITA Region Chairs, with each chair casting an individual, secret ballot.
