Shepard is NC State's Second-Straight Gymnast of the Week
RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State Gymnastics had two gymnasts receive weekly awards after the Pack's season-high 196.500 on Friday night, with Emily Shepard being named ACC Gymnast of the Week and Ashley Knight crowned as NC State's first ACC Newcomer of the Week in program history.
Shepard and Knight's recognitions mark the third and fourth ACC weekly honor for the Wolfpack in 2024, with Chloe Negrete being named ACC Specialist of the Week after the Pack's season-opener at Georgia and was later named Gymnast of the Week after the NC State's dual-meet victory over North Carolina on Jan. 19.
Shepard's Jan. 26 showing against Pitt was a strong one, as she tabbed four podium finishes while claiming the all-around crown as well. Shepard, a fifth-year senior, fired an all-around total of 39.475, highlighted by a pair of 9.925 scores on bars and floor. Her bars score claimed the individual title as the Wolfpack swept the podium, while her floor total resulted in a tie for first place with Negrete.
Shepard and Negrete also tied for first place on vault where she was awarded a 9.875, with Shepard additionally competing on beam where she registered a 9.750.
Knight's first competitive outing in Reynolds Coliseum was an impressive one, as the freshman landed her first career podium finish with a 9.825 on vault.
Knight additionally competed on floor for the Wolfpack, using a 9.700 to contribute to NC State's best floor score of its 2024 campaign, a 49.275.
Knight has been a staple of the Pack's lineup so far this season, competing on vault and floor in all four of NC State's meets to this point. Knight registered a career-best 9.875 on vault in the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad on Jan. 13, while her best floor score of the season at Georgia in her collegiate debut as she posted a 9.775.
Shepard, Knight and the rest of the Wolfpack will be back in action for its third-straight ACC meet on Friday, Feb. 2, as NC State will travel to Clemson for the first meet in program history between the Wolfpack and Tigers. The first rotation is slated for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on the ACC Network.
