Cozart Earns Second Team Honors, Fritton Named to Third Team
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State baseball battery pairing of catcher Jacob Cozart and pitcher Dominic Fritton were named Preseason All-Americans, as announced by D1Baseball on Monday afternoon.
Cozart, who D1Baseball tabbed a Second Team Preseason All-American, earns his second Preseason All-America honor after being named a Preseason First Team All-American by Perfect Game earlier this month. The High Point, North Carolina native earned Second Team All-ACC honors this past season after batting .301 with 10 homers, 14 doubles, two triples, 42 RBI and 107 total bases.
Cozart exceled in conference play as a sophomore, leading all NC State batters with 21 runs scored, 16 extra-base hits, 25 RBI and 62 total bases. He was named a Dick Howser Trophy Semifinalist, to the Golden Spikes Midseason Watch List and to the Buster Posey Award Watch List during his standout sophomore season.
The junior catcher was ranked No. 18 overall in Baseball America's Top 100 2024 MLB Draft prospects list in December. D1Baseball tabbed Cozart as the eighth best college prospect in its 2024 MLB Draft Top 100 College Prospects List in September.
Fritton, who earned Freshman All-American honors from four publications this past spring, was named a D1Baseball Third Team Preseason All-American. Fritton had a stellar first season with the Wolfpack, making 17 total appearances with nine starts in 2023.
Fritton ranked third on the roster with 62.2 innings pitched and 75 strikeouts. He tied for first on the team with three saves despite making only eight relief appearances during his freshman season.
The left-hander ranked first among Wolfpack starting pitchers with a 3.59 ERA and led all NC State pitchers (minimum 6 IP) by limiting opposing batters to just a .211 batting average against him. He also led all NC State pitchers with 56 strikeouts and two saves in conference play.
Fritton and Cozart were two of just 56 players nationally invited to the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp in June.
The Pack opens its 2024 season on Feb. 16 against VCU. First pitch at Doak Field at Dail Park is set for 3 p.m.
