Gymnastics Posts Season-High Score in Home-Opening Win Over Pitt

196.500 Marks NC State's Best Score Ever in a Home Opener
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State gymnastics team kicked off its five-meet home slate on Friday night with an impressive 196.500-194.100 victory over Pitt, marking the Pack's highest score of its 2024 campaign while also setting a new program record for the best score in a home opener.
NC State took the individual title in all four events and the all-around, with Emily Shepard taking individual honors on bars while tying Chloe Negrete for first place on vault and floor en route to an all-around crown. Macy Jennings and Alexis Ortega matched one another's scores on beam, securing a four-event sweep for the Wolfpack.
Vault (49.125)
NC State started its evening on vault where the Pack fired a 49.125 led by a pair of 9.875 totals from Shepard and Negrete. Freshman Ashley Knight tabbed a third-place 9.825 that resulted in the first podium finish of her career, while a set of 9.775 scores from Meg Adler and Krista Zultevicz wrapped up the Wolfpack's scoring effort in its first rotation.
Bars (49.175)
NC State registered a new season-high score on bars during its second rotation, eclipsing the previous mark of 48.950 set last week at North Carolina. A trio of Wolfpack gymnast matched their career high on the rails, with Shepard, Peyton Childs, and Katie Harper each tying their personal best. Shepard fired a meet-high 9.925 from the anchor position, while Childs and Harper each added a podium finish of their own at 9.850. A 9.825 from Ortega erased her previous season-best score of 9.800, while Elle Hadrick and Kailee Adomaites each used a 9.725 to mark a new team-best score for the Pack.
Beam (48.925)
The third frame was highlighted by a first-place 9.825 from Jennings and Ortega, while Negrete finished one spot off the podium with a fourth-place 9.775. A duo of 9.750 totals from Adler and Shepard completed the Pack's five-score total, sending the Pack to its final rotation on floor for the first time in Reynolds Coliseum this season.
Floor (49.275)
Another season-best event score appeared for the Wolfpack on floor, with Shepard and Negrete each posting a 9.925 to lead the way for NC State. Shepard's score marked a new season high, while Negrete's matched her season-best total that was previously hit in the Pack's ACC opener at North Carolina. Zultevicz additionally matched her career-high floor score of 9.875, while Hadrick marked a new career best at 9.850 in her first competition floor routine in Reynolds Coliseum. Knight, a fellow freshman, fired a 9.700 to round out an impressive evening for the Wolfpack.
