SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Junior guard Saniya Rivers of the seventh-ranked NC State women's basketball team has been announced as a top 10 candidate for the 2024 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award that recognizes the top shooting guard in women's NCAA Division I basketball.
Wolfpack fans are encouraged to participate in this year's Fan Voting, which opens on Friday, Jan. 26. The fan vote will count as one committee vote during the finalist selection process. In early March, five finalists will be presented to Meyers Drysdale and the Hall of Fame's selection committee.
Rivers is averaging 12.6 points on 40 percent shooting (64-of-160) while also adding in 6.4 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.4 steals per game. The Wolfpack junior is ranked in the top 25 in the ACC in each of those statistical categories, with her steal average standing third among all league players.
A native of Wilmington, N.C., Rivers has helped the seventh-ranked squad to a 16-2 record and three nationally-ranked wins in the 2023-24 campaign. Her highest scoring performance of the season came in the form of a 33-point, 10-rebound double-double in a Nov. 12 victory over then-No. 2 UConn. Rivers became the first Pack player to post 30+ points in a game since Feb. 13, 2019, and she is one of only three players nationally to have 30+ points and 10+ rebounds in a win over an AP Top-2 opponent this season.
Rivers has scored in double figures nine times this season and has dished out 5+ assists in eight games.
The winner of this season's Ann Meyers Drysdale Award will be presented on a to be determined date alongside the other four members of the Women's Starting Five. For more information on the award and to vote beginning Jan. 26, visit HoopHallAwards.com.
