McKay Named Semifinalist for William V. Campbell Trophy

IRVING, Texas – For the second straight year, NC State offensive lineman Timothy McKay was named a semifinalist for the 2022 William V. Campbell Trophy, as announced by the National Football Foundation on Wednesday morning. Presented annually by the National Football Foundation, the Campbell Trophy recognizes the country's top student-athlete based on academic success, football performance, and exemplary community leadership.
The redshirt junior from Raleigh is one of 201 semifinalists nationwide. This season, he has started in all four of the Wolfpack's games, totaling 300 snaps, including a career-high of 87 against Notre Dame, where he was the highest-graded O-linemen.
Earning an elite grade in the Wolfpack's win over VMI, McKay had four pancakes, four knockdowns, and five Raleigh Railroads; McKay now has 31 knockdowns and 77 pancakes in 35 career games with the Wolfpack.
In December of 2022, McKay graduated cum laude (3.47 GPA) with a bachelor's degree in business administration with a minor in entrepreneurship. He earned ACC Academic Honor Roll accolades all four years, making the dean's list twice at NC State. In the future, he plans on furthering his studies in management with a marketing analytics concentration.
McKay was NC State's Lulu eGames reward recipient, an entrepreneurship competition. He also is involved with NC State's ALPHA group, an NIL leadership group, and NC State's SAAC chapter.
The NFF will announce 12-14 finalists on Oct. 25, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2023 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments. The finalists will travel to the ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas for the 65th NFF Annual Awards Dinner Presented by Las Vegas on Dec. 5, where their accomplishments will be highlighted in front of one of the most powerful audiences in all of sports. Live during the event, one member of the class will be declared the winner of the 34th Campbell Trophy® and have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000.
McKay and NC State prepare to welcome Louisville to Carter-Finley on Friday, Sept. 29th, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN.
