Pack Finishes in Third Place at Rod Myers Invitational

DURHAM, N.C. – The NC State men's golf team finished in third place out of 12 teams at the Rod Myers Invitational held at Duke University Golf Club Sunday and Monday.
For the second consecutive tournament, redshirt junior Nick Mathews paced the Pack, finishing in a tie for sixth place out of 72 competitors. The Mebane, N.C., native shot a four-under par 68 in the first round on Sunday and followed up with a one-under par 71 in the second round. Mathews shot a 74 on Monday to finish the tournament three-under par.
Mathews has now posted back-to-back top-10 finishes to open the fall season. He finished second earlier this month in the Folds of Honor Collegiate.
Michael Vick made his NC State debut this weekend and finished two shots back of Mathews in a tie for 11th place at one-under par. Vick shot a 70 in the second round and followed up with a 71 on Monday in the final round.
Spencer Oxendine gave NC State three golfers in the top-15 with a 14th place finish at one-over par for the tournament. After back-to-back rounds of 73 on Sunday, Oxendine shot a one-under par 71 on Monday in the final round.
Joey Lenane finished in a tie for 47th place and Cade McLaughlin rounded out the NC State lineup with a 56th place finish.
Playing as individuals, Ethan Choi finished in a tie for 21st place at four-over par and Carter Graf finished in 65th place.
Duke won its home event by five shots over second place Louisville. The Cardinals' Sebastian Moss won the individual title with a three-round score of 11-under par.
NC State is back in action Monday, Oct. 2 when it begins play at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
