RALEIGH, NC - - NC State men's tennis coach Kyle Spencer announced Dennis Smith has been elevated to full time assistant, after spending the 2022-23 season as a volunteer coach.
"We are thrilled to be able to bring Dennis Smith aboard officially as our second assistant coach," Spencer said. "Dennis was instrumental in our success last year."
Smith was the lead coach for the doubles team of Joe Wayand and Rafa Izquierdo Luque, guiding the duo to the ITA Regional Championship in the fall and an NCAA Doubles at-large invitation in the spring.
Under Smith's watch, Wayand and Izquierdo Luque advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals, earning All-American accolades.
"I'm so excited to continue working as part of the fantastic coaching staff here at NC State University," Smith said. "Kyle has fostered a strong culture within our program that I'm thrilled to keep contributing to. Go Pack!"
Smith, a Raleigh native, graduated from NC State in 2020 with a degree in business administration.
"We are pleased to be able to hire someone so dedicated not only to our men's tennis program here at NC State, but it also gives me great pleasure to be able to hire an alum who cares so much for this university," Spencer said.
