Tuohy Named USTFCCCA Women’s Scholar Athlete of the Year, Team Earns Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Junior distance runner Katelyn Tuohy has been named the NCAA Division I Indoor Track Women's Scholar Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). In addition, the NC State men's and women's track & field teams have each been tabbed All-Academic Teams and 19 student-athletes earned All-Academic honors.
Tuohy maintained a 3.6 GPA throughout the school year and swept the distance titles at the 2023 NCAA Indoor Championships, with first place finishes in the 3000 meter and 5000 meter races. The honor is the first in program history for a member of the Wolfpack.
In order to be named an All-Academic Team, a squad must hold a team GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period.
To earn an individual honor, a student-athlete must have a GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and additionally must have finished the indoor season ranked in the top 96 in any championship individual event or in the top 48 in any championship relay event or must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships (the Preliminary Championship Competition and/or the Final Championship Competition) or for the multi-events, must have finished the season ranked in the top 48 in the East or top 48 in the West for the most recent outdoor season.
Joshua Brockman, Jamar Davis, Brett Gardner, Gavin Gaynor, Zach Hughes, Cameron Murray, and David Vorbach achieved the honor on the men's side. Representing the women's squad is Kelsey Chmiel, Grace Hartman, Allie Hays, Ally Henson, Mariah Howlett, Caroline Lewis, Gionna Quarzo, Jenna Schulz, Sydney Seymour, Savannah Shaw, Katelyn Tuohy, and Amaris Tyynismaa.
The honor is the first of Hughes, Hartman, Lewis, and Schulz careers. For Shaw, the honor is the fifth of her track career, while it was the fourth for Brockman, Gaynor, and Chmiel.
