Bailey Called Up by San Francisco Giants on Friday
RALEIGH – Former NC State catcher Patrick Bailey earned his first Major League call-up on Friday from the San Francisco Giants, as announced by the club earlier this afternoon.
Bailey, a three-year standout for the Wolfpack, batted .302 over his NC State career with 29 home runs, 106 RBI, 28 doubles and 115 runs scored. The Greensboro native started 126 of his 131 career games with the #Pack9, sporting a .988 fielding percentage while throwing out 26 runners attempting to steal over his career behind the plate.
The standout catcher earned ACC Freshman of the Year honors and Freshman All-American accolades from four publications (D1Baseball, Collegiate Baseball, NCBWA and Perfect Game) in 2018. In 2019, Bailey earned First Team All-ACC and Collegiate Baseball Third Team All-America honors while earning a spot on the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team as both a freshman and as a sophomore.
Bailey joins fellow former NC State catcher Andrew Knizner (St. Louis Cardinals), Trea Turner (Philadelphia Phillies) and Carlos Rodon (New York Yankees) as the four Pack Pros currently in Major League Baseball. He will be the first former NC State player to make his Major League Debut since Joe Dunand made his MLB debut with the Miami Marlins on May 7, 2022, against the San Diego Padres.
The San Francisco Giants selected Bailey with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft. Bailey has batted .276 with four home runs and 16 RBI in 28 games between Triple-A Sacramento and Double-A Richmond this season. He slashed .333/.400/.481 in just 14 games in Richmond before earning a promotion to Triple-A on April 26.
Bailey and the Giants open a three-game home series against the Marlins on Friday night. First pitch at Oracle Park is set for 10:15 p.m. ET.
