RALEIGH — NC State women's basketball officially announced the addition of graduate transfer Lizzy Williamson to the program on Thursday. Williamson is transferring from Southern Utah where she spent the first three seasons of her career with the Thunderbirds, and she will be immediately eligible to play for the Wolfpack beginning with the 2023-24 season.
A 6-5 center, Williamson was the 2022-23 Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year after averaging 9.6 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game. Williamson averages 8.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.9 blocks and 51.6 percent shooting (147-of-281) through her three completed seasons of collegiate basketball.
"We're excited to have Lizzy join the Pack," said head coach Wes Moore. "I've always believed that rebounding is the most important part of the game, and to get someone that averaged double figures on the boards last season is a big addition. At 6-5, she will give us a great presence at both ends of the court on the block. She has also shown the ability to constantly knock down the 15-foot jumper. With Lizzy's experience and basketball IQ, we're definitely looking for her to make a big impact in the next couple of years."
Williamson helped lead Southern Utah to the WAC Tournament title and an NCAA Tournament bid as a redshirt junior in 2022-23. She was named to the All-WAC Second Team and WAC All-Defensive Team in addition to her Defensive Player of the Year honors. Williamson hauled in 329 rebounds last season, with that number standing as the Thunderbirds' single-season record.
On her career, Williamson has scored in double figures in 28 games, has pulled down 10+ rebounds in 25 games and has notched 12 double-doubles. Among those performances is a career-best night against SAGU American Indian where she posted 35 points and 23 rebounds as a sophomore in 2021-22.
The Adelaide, Australia, native won a premiership title and a SA U18 silver medal with her club basketball team, the Sturt Sabres, during her prep career. The daughter of Andrew and Collette, Williamson is a two-time All-Conference Academic Team member.
