Wolfpack Wrestling Club has strong showing on Day 1 of US Open

LAS VEGAS - Five former or current members of the NC State wrestling team advanced to the semi final round of the US Open in Las Vegas.

Two wrestlers, part of the Wolfpack Wrestling Club, earned spots in the finals.

Michael Macchiavello, a national champion in 2018, defeated Nathan Jackson, 4-2, in the semis. Macchiavello will take on Kollin Moore in the finals. Current Wolfpack wrestler, Isaac Trumble, defeated Timothy Dudley, 12-4 to earn a spot in the final round. Trumble will face J'den Cox in the finals.

Macchiavello and Trumble weren't the only members of the Wolfpack Wrestling Club in the semifinals.

Jakob Camacho made his return to the mat after missing the entire 2022-23 season and blew through the competition in the first three rounds.

After earning a first-round bye, Camacho defeated Francisco Barrera, 10-0, in the round of 16. In the next round he defeated Fabian Gutierrez, 10-0. Camacho made it 30-0 versus his first three opponents in the quarters (versus Patrick Glory) before falling to Zane Richards in the semis.

Former All-American Hayden Hidlay fell to Tyler Berger, 11-10, in the semis, while Trent Hidlay dropped an 8-3 match to Zahid Valencia.

The finals will start at 9 pm (ET) on Friday.

Current NC State wrestler and 2022-23 All-American, Ed Scott, pushed his way through the quarters before falling to Sam Sasso, 14-4. Scott defeated Andrew Torres in the round of 32 and Drew Hobbs, 10-0, in the following round.
